The holy grail of internet marketing is figuring out how to make something take on viral behavior on the web. People know what the general reasons or qualities of viral events are, but it is the human factor that is impossible to know. If you want to try and make your own viral campaigns, then that is a worthwhile endeavor to pursue. Some say all you need is one powerful viral event to put a business on the map - and that is appealing.
If you get an idea that you even think could take-off in a viral way, then do not drag your feet on it. The apparent reasoning behind this notion is that somebody else may beat you to the punch. So, just putting it together and making it live is best just so it will not take up too much of your time. Always test before committing in a large scale way so you do not waste resources. If it has some movement, then you can roll it out to other places. Most of the most successful viral marketing campaigns out there were never even planned, they were simply executed without wasting too much time. There just is no need to make your creation look perfect, and it really does not matter.

In terms of value, a viral event really does not offer any value other than the emotional experience. Remember that it is much easier to have smaller successes with viral marketing, and even those may be bigger than regular campaigns.
